Thank you, Body

“ We are not our bodies.” I said that in my last blog and still believe it is true.  However, our bodies hold our spirit. I want to take a moment to invite you to think of how important your body is and take time to thank it for all it does.

One funny thing is that I drew on my hand after writing my last blog and knew it would be used in my next blog but did not know I would receive the quote below or what this blog would say.

The spirit is amazing.  The quote below came to me in an email.

The reality of our lives is played out here and now in the vessels God has given us.... Our bodies are not simply something we must put up with in this life. Rather they are the venue in which God teaches us everything we know. As God-given containers of our spiritual and physical existence, our bodies are every bit as important as our minds/souls/spirits, for without them we would have no matrix in which the experiences of our lives could work to bring us to God or through which God could work in the world. We often speak of becoming whole and holy, but do we really include the body in our idea of wholeness and holiness? If not, then our concept of wholeness is by definition not wholeness at all. (p.2)

It is from a paper by Cherry Haisten, MA, MATS entitled The Wisdom of the Body.

Whatever the shape or size of your body, I invite you to take a few minutes to thank it for all it has done for you.

Even Jesus cannot do some of the things you can do, because you have a body.

Thank you for all the ways you use your hands, feet, and eyes to bless the world.
